Description:

This new position presents an opportunity to be part of the senior management team of Brookfield Power’s Canadian Operations where you’ll work in a collaborative professional environment focused on achieving results and on continued improvement of Brookfield Power’s business in Canada. This role is ideally suited to an individual whose leadership style is guided by integrity, energy and good judgement.

The Director of Government and Stakeholder Relations is responsible for managing all facets of governmental and stakeholder relations and is accountable for ensuring compliance with legislative, regulatory, licensing and permitting requirements.

More specifically, the selected candidate will focus on the following areas of responsibility:

Regulatory Affairs

  • Advise and assist senior management in ensuring the highest standard of compliance of our Canadian operations with government regulations and transmission systems requirements;
  • Maintain positive relations with key executive levels of regulatory bodies and system operators;
  • Monitor pending and existing regulatory activities that will affect growth opportunities;
  • Align regulatory affairs strategy, goals, priorities and plans with Canadian Operations;
  • Manage and ensure proper response and intervention to all system operator or governmental notices of failure to follow asset level regulatory or license conditions;
  • Give strategic advice to various departments related to public disclosure activities and in energy- related transactions and activities;
  • Assist the regulatory staff within Brookfield Power’s energy marketing group with monitoring changes and assessing market rule changes.

Government Relations

  • Support business strategy by developing and implementing government relation plans and by maintaining productive relations with government officials, acting as the lead Brookfield Power representative;
  • Promote Brookfield Power’s views and positions to policy makers;
  • Ensure alignment of political priorities and activities and anticipate trends in public policy;
  • Oversee political campaign contributions to ensure alignment with Brookfield Power’s commercial objectives.

Media & Stakeholder Relations

  • Manage communications strategies and advise senior management and assist General Managers in responding to local media inquiries, in maintaining positive relations with aboriginal and local communities and in developing annual comprehensive stakeholder relations strategies.

Candidate profile – Experience and qualifications:

  • Over 10 years of progressive regulatory and business leadership in a related organization;
  • Degree in Political Science, Economics, Business Administration or Law;
  • Well established network of contacts with industry stakeholders;
  • Ability to build professional and productive relationships;
  • Knowledge of strategic communications planning processes;
  • Knowledge of communications tools and best practices;
  • Proven ability to build and lead solid teams and provide coaching to team members;
  • Ability to effect and manage change positively combined with the ability to rally people in a common direction;
  • Results-oriented and an effective manager of time and resources;
  • Ability to project high energy and enthusiasm, to thrive on change and to enjoy the challenge of growth;
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) in both
  • English and French.
