MANAGER, MARKET AFFAIRS (ISO NEW ENGLAND)

Description:

Reporting to the Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, the incumbent will be responsible for general advocacy in the New England power markets related to operating and power generating asset issues and will also be accountable for ensuring that all asset registrations, filing certificates, interconnection agreements and permits are obtained and maintained. The candidate will also represent Brookfield’s interests in certain ISO-NE Committee processes and provide support to regulatory teams in Brookfield’s Trading, Marketing and Settlement groups. The objective of this position is to act as a bridge between ISO-NE and Brookfield Power’s U.S. operations group by monitoring regulatory activities and advising Brookfield’s staff on any impacts to the business.

More specifically, the Manager, Market Affairs will have the following responsibilities:

  • Monitor, investigate and resolve ISO related issues;
  • Track and report on other State and Federal regulatory activities as they impact the operation of the business;
  • Develop, oversee and coordinate the process of maintaining asset registration and filing certificates;
  • Maintain or obtain asset certificates and permits;
  • Assist in Brookfield’s acquisition and development strategies by providing support in obtaining and maintaining interconnection agreements.

Candidate profile

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in deregulated energy markets - direct experience with ISO-NE marketplace preferred;
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Economics or Business Administration - MBA is preferred;
  • Knowledge of FERC 888 and other landmark orders;
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage outsourced legal matters;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with legislators, regulators, stakeholders and industry advocacy groups;
  • Strong negotiations skills and ability to resolve differences;
  • Demonstrated skills in project / case management and working on project teams;
  • Demonstrated skills in preparing and assessing business opportunities;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Highly self-motivated and ability to work independently;
  • Willingness to travel in North America.
